susiemcgraw

Thoresby Park will host speaker Escobar (PHD researcher, Keele University) as he explores the role of young people in ongoing activism surrounding the fight against nuclear weaponry and global implications of nuclear disarmament in the 21st century.

He will be joining the Spirit of Sherwood WWII Weekend on 10th and 11th May this year, which marks the 80th anniversary of the atomic bomb dropping on Hiroshima. This poignant milestone serves as a reminder of the lasting impact of nuclear warfare, emphasising the significance of continuing the legacy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki survivors for future generations as we enter a post Hibakusha era.

Those in attendance will have the unique opportunity to experience a virtual reality headset in collaboration with the Hiroshima Peace Institute (HPI) and Hiroshima City’s Peace Promotion Division. Simulating the bombing of Hiroshima, making the participant stand at Aioi bridge -Target point- allowing them to see before, during, and after the atomic bomb. The aim of this VR headset is to invoke a deeper sympathy and understanding helping to humanize this part of nuclear history.
